Supporting siblings every step of the way Sibling support is a vital part of what Bluebell Wood offers. We don’t just care for children. We support the whole family. For many families, life can be incredibly challenging, and every member may need support in different ways. That includes siblings. Children aged five and above are invited to take part in our regular sibling activities, from bowling and crazy golf to bath bomb making and trips to Yorkshire Wildlife Park. These sessions give siblings the chance to have fun, build friendships and connect with others who understand their experiences. Recently, we hosted a Lego Sibling Saturday at the hospice and it was a huge hit! One of our siblings, Ruby, created a stunning Lego bouquet in just three hours, beating the estimated four-hour build time. Well done, Ruby, for your patience and creativity! Ruby, from Manor in Sheffield, has been attending our sibling group for several months, and it’s become a place she truly values. “I come here every month because it’s just a really nice place to be,” she says. “You get to socialise with people you probably wouldn’t usually meet and take part in lots of different activities.” While she loved the Lego session. “It’s really relaxing and fun.” For Ruby, it’s the sense of connection that matters most. “Normally, you don’t get to meet people who’ve gone through the same experiences as you. Being here makes you feel really welcome, and you can share things with people who understand.” She also highlights the supportive environment created by staff. “They’re so easy to talk to and really welcoming. Sometimes it can be hard talking to adults, but here it just feels comfortable.” Ruby often speaks about Bluebell Wood at school, describing it as something truly unique. “It’s not like anywhere else. They support not just the children, but siblings and parents too. It’s just such an open and comfortable place.” Through activities, shared experiences and a welcoming environment, our sibling support helps ensure no one feels alone. Manage Cookie Preferences
