HW Martin Waste Ltd Reach New Heights, Raising £6,800 for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice

A team from HW Martin Waste Ltd’s Alfreton Recycling Centre in Somercotes, Derbyshire, has raised an incredible £6,800 for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice after taking on a challenging sponsored walk.

On 19th July, a group of 17 colleagues of mixed abilities and walking experience laced up their boots and took to the Peak District for a challenging trek. The walk included distances of 10, 15, and 18 miles, with the longest route taking just over seven hours to complete.

The route began with the infamous Bamford Clough, one of the steepest road sections in the world, before heading over the moors and down to the Ladybower and Derwent reservoirs. The group tackling the full 18 miles ended with a tough climb up Win Hill, rounding off a day of spectacular views, team spirit and determination.

Phil Darwin, Director, HW Martin Waste Ltd, said:

“We were delighted to support Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice through our recent charity walk. It was a fantastic opportunity to come together as colleagues, enjoy the day – even with a little challenging weather – and raise funds for such an important cause. The hospice provides invaluable care and support, and we’re proud to play our part in helping them continue their work. This walk is just one of the many ways we seek to give back to the communities we work in and create positive social value.”

Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice CEO, Hiedi Hawkins, said:

“We’re incredibly grateful to HW Martin for their amazing support. Fundraising like this makes a huge difference to the children and families we care for, especially as only 17% of our running costs are covered by grants.”

“To have set out with a target of £3,000 and gone on to raise an incredible £6,800 is just outstanding. It really shows the commitment, determination and generosity of everyone involved, not only in the fantastic amount raised but also in taking on such a tough and challenging walk.”

Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice cares for children and young people with life-shortening and life-threatening conditions, and their families, providing vital support when they need it most.
