Since being appointed to our strategic leadership team as care services director, Eve Holroyd has brought her wealth of expertise to the role which sees her responsible for the oversight and delivery of care services and clinical governance at Bluebell Wood.

A registered children’s nurse, Eve, 40, started her career in health psychology and public health, working on projects looking at long-term conditions, self-management and learning disabilities.

Eve, who lives in Leeds, completed a master’s degree, gaining her first experience of children’s palliative care while working part-time with children with medical complexity and life limiting illness.

After retraining as a children’s nurse, Eve gained experience on children’s intensive care and a community virtual ward before taking on leadership roles, including matron for neonatal services and lead nurse for paediatric palliative care.

She developed her leadership skills as a clinical leadership fellow with the NHS England Future Leaders Programme and has since led on transformation projects around improving complex care in the acute setting for mental health and medical complexity.

Since her appointment, Eve has particularly enjoyed building relationships with our local and regional partners.

Eve said, "Having developed experience in different areas of children’s nursing, public health, and palliative care over the last seventeen years, I am thrilled to have joined the team at Bluebell Wood at a time that healthcare organisations are building integrated systems to ensure the efficient use of specialist resources.  No family should have to face such a challenging time without specialist support, and no child should miss out on the joys of childhood.  We are proud to offer support to children and families from the point of diagnosis or recognition of a life-limiting illness through to care at the end of life, in bereavement, and beyond."

Working alongside Eve on the strategic leadership team is chief executive, Heidi Hawkins, income generation and communications director Samantha Wood, chief nurse Dr Michael Tatterton, and finance and resources director Andy Lee. The team was established last year and one of its key roles is overseeing a redesign of our service provision, ensuring that our hospice can continue to deliver essential support for families and young people across South Yorkshire, North Nottinghamshire, North Derbyshire, and parts of North Lincolnshire in the decades to come.

Nicola Didlock, Chair of Trustees, said, “Eve’s understanding of the intricacies involved in the provision of care services and clinical governance is first-class, as are the extensive skills she has acquired in various fields. She understands what makes Bluebell Wood tick – and what the families we support need from us.”
