Bluebell Wood Raises £46,088 Through Recycle Your Christmas Tree Campaign 

Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice is celebrating the continued success of its Recycle Your Christmas Tree campaign, which returned for its eighth consecutive year and raised £46,088 to support local children and families. 

Sponsored by long-standing partner Beatson Clark and supported by recycling partners E.ON and A&A Recycling, the campaign received fantastic public and corporate support, with 100% of funds raised going directly to Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, based in North Anston. 

The initiative saw Bluebell Wood working alongside more than 50 corporate partners from across the region. Following the festive season, local people booked their Christmas trees for collection, which were then collected by corporate volunteers and gathered centrally by A&A Recycling. The trees were subsequently recycled by E.ON, who are supporting the campaign for the second year running. 

E.ON uses the recycled trees to generate renewable electricity at its Blackburn Meadows Renewable Energy Plant, which helps power around one third of Sheffield’s homes and businesses. 

Jess Dhariwal, Plant Manager at E.ON’s Blackburn Meadows biomass energy plant said:

Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice supports babies, children, young people and their families from across South Yorkshire. It costs £6.7 million each year to keep the hospice running, with only 17% of this funding provided by government sources. The remaining funding is raised through the generosity of local people, businesses and community campaigns such as Recycle Your Christmas Tree.
